MEDIA COVERAGE – OPPORTUNITIES - RECOGNITION This is the contest that gets writers noticed by important people in the music industry. For example, Natalie Chua was quickly signed by Simon Cowell after she won the UK Songwriting Contest Open Catgeory. Every year contestants have their songs played on major radio stations, get interviewed on TV and radio and appear in the press all around the world. Many of these are new writers who have never even entered a contest before. This has led to many management and publishing offers and recording opportunities for UKSC contestants – see the News page on the website for details of some of these success stories. In the words of Channel 4 Television: "If you really want to make it as a songwriter this is the contest to enter" (Channel Four Television - Ideas Factory).

DON’T FORGET
A home recorded cassette/CD or a handwritten lyric sheet has as much chance of winning as an expensive studio production - because songwriting ability is being judged, NOT performance or production. See the website for full details.

The UK Songwriting Contest was launched with The BRIT Trust (the organisation behind The BRIT Awards) and is dedicated to promoting the art of songwriting and the discovery of new talent. It is staged in association with some of the biggest and most respected names in the UK and international music industry. We hope you will become part of this year's event.

We look forward to receiving your entries. If you have any questions please visit the website at www.songwritingcontest.co.uk We have added a lot of new information about the contest and you should easily find the answers to your questions there.

That’s it for now. Best wishes to everyone and good luck with all your songwriting projects, From the UKSC Team.

We will rock you - Queen & Ben Elton - Have you seen it? What did you think?

Good evening all, I do hope you are well.

I was lucky enough to see for the first time 'We will rock you' at the Palace Theatre, in Manchester last weekend.
What an entertaining show!
My hat really does go off to the very very talented male lead... who is not even mentioned in the publicity! He was by far the thing that made the show so great. He reminds me of Ben Stiller.
What do you think? He is the one in the centre of the bike. http://www.wewillrockyou.co.uk/tour/

The cast includeed Ex-Coronation Street star Kevin Kennedy, Jonathan Wilkes, X Factor finalist Brenda Edwards, actress Georgina Hagen, most recently seen in ITV's Britannia High, and I'd Do Anything reality show contestant Ashley Russell.
I have to be honest... the story itself was quite thin, but the comedy and the stunning music from Queen, made for a fabulous show.
I would love your opinion on the show..................... What do you think?

Festival4Stars Competition - Don't miss this one!

Hiya,
As you know I have judged loads of competitions and here is one I definately think you should consider entering. I was chairman of the judges for Festival4stars for several years.

Festival4stars began with a pilot of 4 heats in 2002 in the West Of Scotland. In 2003 & 2004 there were heats in 7 regions in Scotland and England and in 2005 this grew to 9 regions of the UK. Currently 11 regions encompass Northern Ireland, Wales, England & Scotland. There are different sections reflecting various singing styles, musical theatre, dance and ‘Star Group’. Festival4stars has soloists, duos, small and large groups, so there’s sure to be something to suit everyone and it is open to all age groups.

Constructive written feedback from at least two judges, to take home with you on the day! Your family and friends can come along and support you at the events. With fabulous prizes and the chance to perform before established professionals. The very best go through to the Dance & Group Finals in Yorkshire or the Singing Finals for solo singers and Musical soloists in Glasgow at the end of each year.
